Battery & E-Bike Recall Tracker

Methodology & coverage

Snapshot status: cached 2026-10-28T13:40:32Z. Coverage starts January 1, 2023. This site does not track completion or provide live recall status.

How the index is made

One cached CPSC bulk API response is filtered to RecallDate on or after 2023-01-01. Titles and Products Name fields are the primary matching text. Descriptions and Hazards text supply secondary lithium evidence. A few records are included, excluded or recategorized by hand after review (included: 26379; excluded: 25290; recategorized: 26610 to power banks). No network requests run during build.

Category rules in plain words

Word boundaries prevent a keyword from matching inside an unrelated word: “potential” is not a battery keyword. Power bank variants require lithium evidence or a fire, burn, thermal or overheating hazard in the title or Hazards text. Generic chargers and standalone or replacement battery packs and cells require both lithium evidence and fire/battery hazard text; chemical burns from ingestion do not count. Lithium and li-ion spelling variants are recognized. Plain lithium is included conservatively; the text does not always establish cell chemistry.

A device that merely mentions a battery, such as a vacuum, tool or cooler, goes under other lithium products when lithium evidence and a fire/battery hazard are present. Battery products take precedence over the vehicle they fit. E-bike and electric bike or bicycle terms, electric scooter and e-scooter terms, and hoverboard terms identify mobility records, including mechanical recalls. Ordinary bikes and kick scooters do not match. Text before the word “Recalls” in titles is removed for product matching to avoid mistaking a recalling firm’s name for the product. Product names identifying helmets or bike racks are excluded unless they also identify a battery or charger. Other products require explicit lithium evidence plus the hazard terms above and appear under other lithium products. Charger alone, charging furniture, sports teams named Chargers, and ordinary battery-operated toys do not qualify.

Hazard labels

Site-assigned hazard labels use Title and Hazards Name text. Fire or battery matches fire, burn, overheat, thermal, explosion, battery and batteries terms. Failure to alert, detect or warn about a fire and chemical burns from ingested coin cells are excluded. Other covers remaining hazards. E-bikes, e-scooters and hoverboards are kept for every hazard type, including fall hazards. The home hazard filter can be combined with search, year and category.

Coverage gaps

CPSC-only, 2023 onward. No Health Canada or NHTSA feed is included. Text matching may miss or over-include records. Model numbers are often blank in the API; search includes names, models, titles and descriptions but does not prove a product is affected or unaffected. Categories are site-assigned. This is a dated snapshot, not live status monitoring.
